How To Define Character Traits
Alex Hormozi mentioned to stop listening to the advice of teachers that cannot operationalise a word.
Think of the social media accounts with motivational content.
"Be kind. Be disciplined. Be patient. Be humble. Be confident"
Truly, though, what does it mean?
A great example is someone asking about getting better with talking to people.
(I think of my brother learning retail sales)
You might advise,
"Be charismatic. Or be confident"
Alex discards that advice as it's unclear how to be a character trait.
In his podcast interview with Chris Williamson, he can break down what it means to be charismatic.
Smile. Look people in the eye. Greet them using their name. Nod your head when they speak. Repeat what people say in your own words. Speak with higher intonation.
As Alex mentions, character traits are micro-habits bundled together under one umbrella.
Next time someone says,
"Just be X."
Work out what small ACTIONS you must do to define X.
