Let me make this straight.

It is normal to be fresh out of high school. And NOT know what you want.

I was at the same crossroads before.

Here's how I stopped feeling uncertain, and took charge of my life.

Direction > Goals

Goals are more useful as markers of progress.

In the grand scheme of things, it's better to choose a direction.

Given time, you will get a clearer picture of what you want.

Stagnation will be the killer of men.

Going towards a direction is still progress towards a goal that has not actualised itself.

It's mist. Hard to grasp. Disappears with effort.

When you reach the top of one mountain, you realise there is another.

Taking Inventory

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

To identify them, ask what subjects or topics you draw yourself to.

What kind of content do you mainly consume?

The point of this exercise to illustrate your present self.

If you don't know yourself, the time for that is now.

Exhibit A: Myself

(Skip this section if you don't need me as an example)

Originally from Grade 10-11, I thought I'd end up in investment banking. Then, I saw the reality of not seeing my family and not seeing my first million dollar pay check until I was in my late 40's early 50's.

So, I chose not to pursue it.

But, from my past experiences, I was interested in entrepreneurialism, creating content and stuff related to numbers.

At this point after high school, I wasn't comfortable interacting with people/strangers.

And, I didn't like the idea of going into debt for a career I might not like.

So, what direction did I choose?

Sales.

After high school, I had the opportunity to work in retail . Then, kept exploring sales and customer service in different roles.

Overall, my life's direction is going towards content marketing and stuff related to business.

For now, I'm building a strong base in sales as it'll help my business direction and my life in general.

From how I understand, whether it's out in public, at work or in business, you gotta interact with people.

Now, Go

Nothing is a wrong choice.

The only wrong choice you can make is doing nothing at all.

Just continue to course correct.
